Joint Base San Antonio Spouse Nominated Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year®
Spouse recognized for work with Military Child Care

San Antonio, Texas — Kayla Corbitt has been nominated for the 2023 Armed Forces Insurance Joint Base San Antonio Spouse of the Year®. Corbitt, the founder of Operation Child Care, is currently stationed with her husband, Matthew Corbitt, who is completing the Army Baylor DPT Program at JBSA.
This award honors the dedication and sacrifices of our nation’s more than 1.1 million military spouses, Armed Forces Insurance is proud to recognize military spouses from all six branches of the Armed Forces who are making a difference in their communities.
Kayla is making waves in the Military and Veteran community by shining a light on an issue that is at the core of most, if not all, struggles that military families face, child care. During her first overseas stationing, she was shocked by the stark difference in what was advertised versus what is obtainable regarding resources. The lack of access to affordable, quality child care can affect a family long after completing their service. She has advocated for transparency, reform, and a bottoms-up approach for over a decade. Kayla is creating solutions available to any installation or program that seeks them. “While creating new child care centers is progress, it is meaningless if we do not adapt to ensure those centers can be staffed and the families can afford them. If we stop to ask families what their roadblocks are, they will tell us. Our military and veteran families' unique circumstances require creative solutions and resources outside of the DoD.”
As a nominee, Corbitt is now a step closer to being named JBSA 2023 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year® (MSOY). Nominations from non-family members are being accepted now through January 26th across all six branches of the United States military. The first round of voting will begin February 6th and continue through February 10th. The nominees will be whittled down to base winners through the popular vote, and judging panels, with branch winners announced next. After a final vote is conducted, the overall winner will be announced at an awards luncheon in conjunction with National Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 12th.
“Over the nine years Armed Forces Insurance has been involved with the Military Spouse of the Year® awards program, we have seen it grow and amplify the voice of the military spouse on a national stage,” says Lori Simmons, Chief Marketing Officer at Armed Forces Insurance. “These spouses have pioneered initiatives, founded organizations, and advocated for issues impacting the military community in the best ways imaginable. We are thrilled to welcome the 2023 base winners to the AFI-MSOY family and work alongside them to make an even bigger impact.”
